  1. Do I have to apply and pay fees every year? 

No, your application is good for 5 years.  Please contact either the county office for volunteers ( link below for you), or Christine Smiley in the office to verify your application is still active.  If you signed the application in K you would need to do it again when your child exits 4th grade.  This would insure you are in the system again through 8th grade.


  1. I am a Polk County Public Schools (PCPS) employee-do I have to apply?

Yes EVERY YEAR, every employee has to go on the site and apply.  There is a specific question that allows you to identify yourself as an employee.  You DO NOT have to pay the $25 fee, we are exempt as employees.


  1. Who else is exempt from paying the fees?

According to the PC website:

***Active and sworn law enforcement officers with arresting power, current PCPS employees, registered PCPS students and college students majoring in EDUCATION (college student must be pre-screened through the district's Pre-Employment Services dept.) are EXEMPT from paying the background check fee. You still have to apply and fill out the application to remain active.


PLEASE NOTE:

In the dance department we DO NOT permit high school students to volunteer.  We need adults to supervise our dancers for safety reasons.  Thank you for your understanding.


  1. Are parents in the medical field exempt, I heard we were?

To our knowledge, there is nothing stated from the PC website to include individuals in the medical profession.  Therefore you should fill out an application and pay the fee as stated.  Thank you!


  1. Which parents are REQUIRED to volunteer in the dance department?
  • We require that ALL parents of our auditioned students volunteer in the dance department. 
  • We ask that ALL 8th Grade parents pitch in and volunteer with field trips and backstage help during rehearsals and concerts.

NOW is the time to apply-it is too late once concert arrives to be approved through the process.  We hate to turn you away because we need your help.
