Videos on How to Make A Dance Bun- Scroll down for helpful videos and photos!

Practice Makes Perfect

Below you will find videos on how to make a dance bun. There is the classical way, you can also use a sock or buy a donut at the hair supply store. Watch the videos and choose which one would be easier for you or your child to do.

With all of them you will need either Hair Pins or Bobby pins, hair ties, hairnet, and hairspray.

Scrunchies, headbands or hairbands wrapped around are not acceptable for class or performance.

Please contact us with any questions or concerns.

Thank you! The Dance Department

Helpful Videos for all hair types by professional recommendations:

A proper dance bun: hair is completely slicked back with gel and hairspray with a part on the LEFT side of the head.  The hair is to be in a low ponytail then twist or braid the hair into a tight circle (it should look like a flat donut) until all of the hair is in a neat bun against the head.  You may also use a sock or donut sock for a perfect bun.  Please look at the pictures we have added above.   All hair elastics, bobby pins, hair pins, hair clips, and hairnets should match the dancer's hair color.  ALL DANCERS SHOULD LOOK THE SAME AND BE UNIFORMED.

Tips:

It is easier to manage the hair when it is wet.

Use PLENTY of hair/bobby pins (same color as hair) to secure the bun.  Thick hair may require larger pins.

Wrap the HAIRNET (same color as hair) over the bun and secure that again with bobby/hair pins.

NO SCRUNCHIES PERMITTED

NO BRAIDS AT THE TOP OR THROUGHOUT THE HEAD

NO FLYAWAYS (SIDE HAIR AROUND THE HAIRLINE SHOULD BE SLICKED BACK WITH SPRAY AND GEL.

USE HAIR CLIPS TO KEEP ALL BANGS OUT OF THE DANCER'S FACE.

BOBBY PINS WILL NOT HOLD.
